Why LVP Is the Right Choice for Many Michigan Homeowners

Luxury vinyl plank has transformed the flooring industry. Today's LVP products feature realistic wood-look textures, rigid SPC cores that resist dents and temperature swings, and 100% waterproof construction — making them ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and homes with pets and children. Quality Hardwoods of Michigan carries premium LVP from MSI, Axiscor, McMillan, Wilson & Morgan, and other leading brands.

100% Waterproof

Unlike hardwood or laminate, LVP is completely waterproof — safe for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements where moisture is a concern.

Scratch & Dent Resistant

Premium LVP products feature wear layers of 12–22 mil that resist scratches from pets, furniture, and heavy foot traffic far better than hardwood.

Floats Over Most Subfloors

LVP can be floated over concrete, existing tile, and most subfloors without adhesive, reducing installation time and cost.

Our Process

01

Product Selection

We help you choose the right LVP product for your application — considering wear layer thickness, core type (SPC vs. WPC), and locking system.

02

Subfloor Assessment

The subfloor is checked for flatness and moisture. LVP requires a flat subfloor (3/16 inch over 10 feet) but is more tolerant of moisture than hardwood.

03

Acclimation

LVP is acclimated to room temperature for 24–48 hours before installation to minimize post-installation expansion.

04

Installation

Planks are floated using the click-lock system, starting from the straightest wall. We stagger joints for a natural look and maintain proper expansion gaps.

05

Trim & Transitions

Quarter-round, T-moldings, and transition strips are installed. The floor is cleaned and inspected before final walkthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SPC and WPC luxury vinyl plank?

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) has a rigid stone-polymer core — denser, more dent-resistant, and better for temperature extremes. WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) has a foamed core that is softer underfoot and warmer. SPC is generally preferred for Michigan's temperature swings.

How thick should LVP be?

For residential use, we recommend a minimum of 6mm total thickness with a 12-mil wear layer. High-traffic areas and homes with pets benefit from 8mm+ thickness and 20-mil wear layers. Commercial applications typically require 28-mil wear layers.

Can LVP be installed over existing flooring?

LVP can often be floated over existing hardwood, tile, or vinyl if the surface is flat and in good condition. We assess the existing floor before recommending installation over it.

How long does LVP installation take?

A typical 1,000 sq ft LVP installation takes 1–2 days including subfloor prep and trim work. LVP can be walked on immediately after installation.
