Michigan's Flooring Authority Since 1984

Quality Hardwoods of Michigan was founded in 1984 by Dave Solomich, who spent his career on jobsites alongside Michigan builders and contractors — learning firsthand what flooring performs and what fails. His son Mike Solomich has been with Quality Hardwoods for over 15 years and now heads sales — and his role goes well beyond the showroom counter. Mike goes out to jobsites with builders and interior designers, walking through active projects and helping select the exact flooring that fits the design, the budget, and the build. After 15+ years working alongside Michigan's top builders and designers, Mike understands how a floor needs to perform in a space before it's ever installed. When a builder is spec'ing a multi-home development or an interior designer is sourcing flooring for a high-end renovation, Mike is on-site with them. Alongside him, Ron Fox brings over 20 years of hands-on flooring installation experience, giving our team a perspective that goes far beyond the showroom floor.

That combined experience — Dave's decades on jobsites, Ron's 20+ years installing floors, and Mike's hands-on work with builders and designers — shapes every recommendation we make. We know that white oak outperforms red oak in Michigan homes with fluctuating humidity because its tighter grain structure resists seasonal movement better — a pattern we've observed across thousands of installations since the 1990s. We know that engineered hardwood glued over a properly moisture-tested concrete slab performs reliably in Michigan basements, while solid hardwood in the same application fails within two winters. We know which finish products hold up to Michigan's road salt season and which ones don't.

We stock 36+ premium brands — DuChateau, Provenza, Sheoga, Mullican, Preverco, Kentwood, Indiana Hardwood, Three Trees, Bella Cera, Armstrong, and more — alongside a full professional supply line: DuraSeal stains, Bona and Fabulon finishes, Norton abrasives, and Woodwise fillers. Whether you're a contractor pricing a 500-unit development or a homeowner replacing a single room, you get the same product knowledge and competitive pricing.

We serve Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and Washtenaw Counties and deliver statewide across Michigan. Showroom hours: Monday–Friday 7am–4pm, Saturday 9am–12pm. Call (248) 853-2232 — Mike will answer.

Expert Insight

White Oak vs. Red Oak in Michigan

Ron Fox has installed both species across hundreds of Michigan homes over 20 years. His consistent finding: white oak's closed-grain structure gaps and cups less during Michigan's 20–80% RH seasonal swings. It's what he'd put in his own house.

Expert Insight

Engineered vs. Solid on Concrete

Dave Solomich spent his career on jobsites watching solid hardwood fail on concrete slabs — we've seen it hundreds of times. Engineered hardwood glued over a moisture-tested slab with a urethane adhesive performs reliably for 20+ years.

Selecting Flooring for a Build
